Knaresborough Town have announced the sad passing of club president Geoff Waite.

Waite passed away this morning after a long illness which he has fought hard. He leaves two sons, Andrew and Neil and a daughter, Alison.

Born in July 1929, Geoff has been involved with Knaresborough in virtually every possible capacity since making his debut as a player in November 1948 after returning to the town following National Service.

He was part of the team which helped to turn Manse Lane from a waste disposal site into a football ground in the early 1950’s and took over as club secretary from Syd Bradley in the 1958-59 season, a position which he held until 1975.

Geoff soon took on the role as Treasurer and held that position until 2011 when he became President of the club.

He took an active role in every part of the club which had him at its heart and followed the football closely through family connections, initially playing with his brothers, Alan and Harold and then seeing son Andrew involved.

More recently it was Alison’s husband, Steve Bradley, who took on the family mantle which has been continued to the present day with grandson Jim Bradley following in a fine family tradition which Geoff set in motion over sixty years ago.
