An excellently struck 70th minute goal from Dylan Burns earned Grantham all three points against Frickley on Easter Monday.

Burns cut in from the right wing to curl an 18 yard shot beyond Sebastian Malkowski to win the game for the home side but the Blues only had themselves to blame after not taking their chances earlier in the game.

Brad Grayson had a great chance for the Blues in the second minute when he latched onto a miss-controlled pass by Stefan Galinski to break clear but Jake Turner got a hand to Grayson’s lob from 20 yards.

Tom Davie headed wide following a Steve Jeff corner four minutes later whilst at the other end Lee Shaw put a low angled shot wide.

A great pass from Davie in the 12th minute played in Grayson but his left footed shot from 12 yards squirmed under Turner’s body and was cleared.

It was Grantham’s turn to go close a minute later when Grant Ryan met a Michael Emmott cross from the left with a goal-bound header that Malkowski clawed away diving to his right.

Jacob Hazel was the next to find himself with a clear sight of goal when Luke Hinsley’s deflected shot fell kindly for him 8 yards out but Turner was out quickly to block Hazel’s shot.

The Blues then lost Tyler Williams through injury with Chris Wood replacing him and Grayson moving out wide.

Three minutes into the second half Burns showed how dangerous he was when he picked up a loose pass from Wood to run at the Blues’ defence before firing over the bar.

Grayson saw his shot from a tight angle caught on the line by Turner in the 69th minute and seconds later Davie shot over from 18 yards.

Within 60 sends Grantham took the lead. Burns cut inside Jeff before firing in a curling shot which flew past Malkowski and just under the bar.

The nearest the Blues came to salvaging a draw was in the 76th minute when Ross Armstring won the ball in midfield before shooting just over the bar from 25 yards.

Malkowski came up for a couple of late Frickley corners but they never really looked like getting on terms.

Frickley Athletic: Malkowski, Gooda (Bruce 85), Jeff, Hinsley, Cyrus, Ible, Davie, Armstrong, Hazel, Grayson (Parkinson), Williams (Wood 22).
