Quinn: Town youngsters to get chance

Paul Quinn has promised to continue blooding young Brighouse Town players in the Evo Stik.

The Brighouse chief has been giving development squad youngster chances in the past few weeks and that will continue.

Quinn is also conducting a serious review of his squad and he has already said that in the summer he will axe any player he does not feel has been performing to expected standards.

“Some recent performances have been good and some people have put their benchmark down and told us they want to be here,” Quinn said.

“Some haven’t and they have seven games left to change our minds. We are mid-table at the moment and as a management team we want to push on and drive the club forwards.

“We’re going to keep tinkering with the side for the last few games. I would imagine between now and the end of the season that it will be a different eleven every game.

“We want to give some of the fringe players a chance along with a couple from the development squad. If you can’t do it now, when can you do it?

“I’m a big believer in giving young players a chance. I was given a chance as a young manager by the club and I’d like to give players an opportunity.

“We have unearthed some good players here. Players who have gone onto establish themselves in the first team.”

Quinn also spoke about the 1-1 draw with New Mills last Saturday, a result that gained the whipping boys their second point of the campaign.

Quinn said: “I would probably describe it as frustrating than disappointing.

“We didn’t really get going in the first half and I felt we sunk to the tempo they were playing at.

“In the second half we probably had 85% possession and that’s not an exaggeration. It was just one of those days.

“It did cross my mind in the last minute when their number ten hit the side-netting that I may end up on Football Focus justifying the defeat.

“I was sort of half-happy for them because they celebrated it like it was a cup final victory. I went in after and said ‘well done’ and I hope they appreciated that.

“I do wish them all the best because it has been a tough season for them and a lesser club may have folded in that situation. You have to take your hat off to them to keep going because the players, the managers and the committee keep turning up.

“I have nothing but admiration for them.”
