Stocksbridge’s hopes of finishing in the top ten are in their own hands after a winning at struggling Daventry Town.

The match was in doubt earlier in the week when Daventry announced they were resigning from the league at the end of the season – days after failing to fulfil their fixture at Rugby Town because their manager, assistant manager and secretary had left. Fortunately Daventry managed to gather a side together.

Rory Coleman put Stocksbridge ahead on 20 minutes from the penalty spot before Daventry equalised through Jetmir Esso.

The Steels had to wait until the second half to double their lead. Harrison Biggins doing so with a close range finish.

Young Keegan Burton sealed the victory after scoring a simple tap-in after goalkeeper Ben Heath had spilled Adam Hinchliffe’s free kick.

Stocksbridge Park Steels: D Reay, Tootle, Coleman, Gregory, McFadyen, M Reay, Rhodes, Biggins, Hinchliffe, Ruthven, Poulton. Subs: Burton, Meade, Thompson, Laight.
