Glasshoughton Welfare 1-2 Hull United
Glasshoughton Welfare slipped to an unfortunate defeat last night when Hull United grabbed an injury time winner at Leeds Road.
Welfare opened well and should have taken the lead in the first minute when Andy Seed had a clear header at goal but missed the target. The returning Kingsley Weatherald then shot high over the bar. Another good Welfare move up the left saw the ball crossed to the far post but Connor Rollinson’s header drifted wide.
Welfare had a lucky escape on 15 minutes when the ball beat Josh Archer and struck a post with Gary Bradshaw then firing past the opposite post.
Kris Fawcett hit a shot over the visitors goal but slack Welfare defending allowed Jamie Richardson in on goal and only a fine block by Archer prevented a goal.
Welfare took the lead on 32 minutes. Phil Dobson made a fine parry at the foot of his post to deny Weatherald’s direct free-kick but Fawcett reacted well to turn and fire the ball home for his first goal for Welfare.
Hull hit back and Bradley Kilburn made a great clearance of the line from a stooping Richardson header.
Welfare had a great chance for a second just before the break when Weatherald latched onto a through ball but Dobson clung onto his attempted lob over the stopper.
Welfare forced four quick corners at the start of the second half but they were undone on fifty minutes when a 20 yard Gary Bradshaw free-kick sailed over the defence into the top corner.
The visitors then went in search of a second and welfare did well to stem the tides of attack. However welfare had their moments too. Young Lucas Middleton fired a shot over and then Tom Giblin for Hull was red carded as he tripped Weatherald who was through on goal. The resultant
free-kick came to nothing.
Welfare made a couple of substitutions and one, Josh Morley hit an effort just wide. Del Pollock was also on and he missed a great chance on eighty minutes when he poked the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.
At the other end Archer was forced into a good save and then in the fourth minute of injury time the visitors got the final goal. Another Bradshaw free-kick was hit over the defensive wall and beat Archer into the top corner.
