Selby Town 4-0 Winterton Rangers
An FA Cup place is a realistic prospect for Selby Town after Chris Jackson’s hat-trick guided them past ten-man Winterton Rangers.
Jackson also missed a penalty on the half-hour mark which would have put Selby in front. The spot kick was a big moment as Winterton goalkeeper Adam Stevens was dismissed for bringing down Jackson in the build-up.
Selby had numerous to break the deadlock and it looked they could rue those missed chances as Winterton were more than holding their own even with a man missing.
But the Robins struck the opener on the hour when Jackson broke into the box down the right to slot the ball home and make amends for the penalty miss.
The visitors kept going and nearly hit an equaliser when Tom Hogg stopped Jamie Coulson from getting through.
Selby realised they needed to get more goals to thwart the visitors advances. Tom Owen got the second as his shot from close in found the bottom of the net.
With ten minutes to go Jackson got his second when he met the ball from a cross from the far left and he hit a sweet left footed strike.
The game should have been safe now but the ten men still made everyone nervous when they had the ball so the Robins could not relax.
A great ball from Owen in the dying seconds found Jackson onside this time. Jackson’s speed then took him in on goal and with only the keeper to beat he waltzed round him to slot home for a neat hat trick.
