Westella VIP 3-0 Lincoln Moorlands Railway
Westella’s strong end to the season continued with a third consecutive victory after beating bottom of the league Lincoln Moorlands at The Euronics Ground.
A game that could of being a potential banana skin for VIP was soon overcome as Joe McFadyen cut in from the right and drilled the ball hard and low in to the far corner of the goal for 1-0 with five minutes played.
The opening goal spurred VIP on kicking in to a strong head wind but a lack of quality on the ball saw the visitors have plenty of ball but to no prevail.
The visitors did muster up one effort on goal that keeper Liam Taylor was equal to diving to his left tipping the ball around the post for a corner.
VIP playing with more purpose in the second half saw them increase their lead to two nil when a ball over the top saw Andy Coverdale through on goal coolly slide the ball in to the bottom corner on 59 minutes.
VIP where then guilty of their own wrong doing wasting further chances in front of goal more so James Williamson and Alex Wood missing opportunities in front of goal. With 20 minutes to play Chris Short played through a well weighted pass for Spinks to run through on goal and expertly lifted the ball up and over the diving Moorlands keeper for 3-0.
VIP again wasted further chances in front of goal to increase their lead further as they looked to add to their goals scored tally.
Westella VIP manager Leon Sewell: ”Another win in the bag for us in tricky conditions is very pleasing.
“It was made clear to the players before the game what was expected and that eventually come to the game in the second half where we played well.
“That’s three back to back wins for us in a week scoring 11 and conceding just 1 has seen us in a good run of form at the back end of a very demanding first season in the NCEL league.
“We’ve got the points on the board now and it’s important we put in a worthy performance on Saturday at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.”
This Saturday Westella welcome Glasshoughton Welfare to The Euroncis Ground, Marsh Lane, Barton.
