Barnsley Town FC has been chosen as the new name for Shaw Lane Aquaforce.
Aquaforce were recently told to change their title as it fell foul of the FA kit and advertising regulations – something the authorities realised in November.
The club’s committee has also chosen to change their kit colour from blue and white to red and blue.
Chairman Craig Wood told the Barnsley Chronicle: “Barnsley Town FC was chosen by 12 votes to one, with me being the one. I wanted AFC Barnsley but I am happy to go with the consensus. We are also changing the kit to blue and red, because our junior teams used to be Barugh JFC who played in red and we wanted to keep the blue of Aquaforce. It will be like Crystal Palace’s kit.”
Although Wood still says that it will be good for the club in the long run because it will bring local identity, he is disappointed because of the amount of money spent on merchandise and junior team kits last summer.
