Lincoln Moorlands Railway P-P Hemsworth Miners Welfare
Hemsworth Miners Welfare were shamefully denied their greatest day after Lincoln Moorlands Railway postponed their fixture at 11.30am, just as two coaches pulled into the MDC Stadium car park.
Over 100 Hemsworth fans, most in fancy dress, were all set to travel across to Lincoln to hopefully see their team deservedly clinch the league title. That was until Lincoln announced that they could not raise a team as only six players were available.
Lincoln were in for a bumper payday if the game had gone ahead. Instead it is Hemsworth and their supporters who are left out of pocket. It is unclear who will pick up the bill for the coaches. Then there’s the fancy dress costumes.
The debacle is the third time that Lincoln have failed to raise a side since August, something they did at least five times last season.
The NCEL board have already begun the investigation into Lincoln’s latest misdemeanour. The league also have to decide whether the game will be played or whether Hemsworth will be awarded the points.
Earlier in the season, Lincoln took only eight players to Selby. They were beaten 14-0, the league record for biggest win.
