Evo Stik Division One North
Prescot Cables 1-3 Ossett Town
Ossett Town kept the distance between them and second-bottom Harrogate Railway at five points after a vital victory at Prescot Cables.
Ossett have two games-in-hand on Railway – one against New Mills – and one more victory is likely to preserve their Evo Stik status for next season.
Their trip to Prescot could have not gone any better. After a period of pressure, Anthony Mackie scored the opener after reacting first to Danny Frost’s strike which had cannoned back off the post.
Mackie was involved in the second, seven minutes into the second half. His effort was saved, but Simon Rogers pounced to score from the rebound.
David Brown sealed the three points in the closing stages. Mackie sent quick forward Brown scuttling away and the striker did the rest.
Oliver Grundy scored a late consolation for Prescot.
Ossett Town: Backhouse, Hawksworth, Kilner, Monfredi, Rogers, Assenso (Quinlan), Payne (Brown), Ridley (McBurnie), Peterson, Frost, Mackie. Subs unused: L Schofield, Wood.
