Evo Stik Division One South
Downbeat Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliott is refusing to give up on the title despite his side needing three wins and a prayer to stop Stafford Rangers.
Former assistant Lee Morris came back to haunt Elliott as Goole pulled off a dramatic comeback to draw 3-3 at the Shaw Lane complex. Elliott was upset that his team surrendered their solid 3-1 half-time lead.
He also criticised the Evo Stik League over the decision to move the game to last night. It means that he has to somehow put a side out to play Handsworth Parramore in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup semi-final tonight.
“I think it is ridiculous that we are expected to play three games in four days at this level of football,” Elliott said.
“Any sane football person would say it is a ridiculous thing to ask people to do. From the point of view, physically, I don’t think it is right to ask players to do that.
“Secondly, with work commitments and things, I think it is wrong. It sounds like excuses, but I’d like to think anyone who knows their football will agree that it is an absurd thing to be made to do.”
It seems someone I the powers that be does not want shaw lane to progress in the league
newcastle v leek was called off last bank holiday and played the next day
If they had a proper football pitch of their own they wouldn’t be in this situation.
Worst manager in the league
Couldn’t run a bath
His players are only there for the money they are the man city of the unibond
It’s not absurd – it’s the consequences of all of the postponements because of the poor pitch. To compete at this level means investing in infrastructure as well as players, and not ground-sharing with a rugby club!
Or perhaps play on a pitch that is good enough for ” this standard of football “
Negative comments should be not aimed at SL but the NPL. SL have had a brilliant season, but the Northern Premier league have a lot to answer for. Should not have been let in if they don’t meet the requirements for grading, ie precedent in any ground share and have a suitable tenure on the ground. What an embarrassing situation if SL win through the playoffs as will they be allowed promotion?
Once again the supporters do not come into the reckoning when it comes to re organising the game, as well as the players. arrangements have to be made to allow them to attend. I am sure that never came into the thoughts of the NPL when making this decision.
What has been achieved at SL is incredible and it is not over yet.
