Downbeat Elliott not giving up on title

Evo Stik Division One South

Downbeat Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliott is refusing to give up on the title despite his side needing three wins and a prayer to stop Stafford Rangers.

Former assistant Lee Morris came back to haunt Elliott as Goole pulled off a dramatic comeback to draw 3-3 at the Shaw Lane complex. Elliott was upset that his team surrendered their solid 3-1 half-time lead.

He also criticised the Evo Stik League over the decision to move the game to last night. It means that he has to somehow put a side out to play Handsworth Parramore in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup semi-final tonight.

“I think it is ridiculous that we are expected to play three games in four days at this level of football,” Elliott said.

“Any sane football person would say it is a ridiculous thing to ask people to do. From the point of view, physically, I don’t think it is right to ask players to do that.

“Secondly, with work commitments and things, I think it is wrong. It sounds like excuses, but I’d like to think anyone who knows their football will agree that it is an absurd thing to be made to do.”
