Chasetown 0-1 Stocksbridge Park Steels
Scott Ruthven struck in the dying minutes to end Chasetown’s play-offs hopes and continue Stocksbridge’s strong end to the campaign.
Going into the last game of the season on Saturday, Stocksbridge are unbeaten in eight games.
The pressure was all on Chasetown, who simply had to win. Both sides created chances, but Stocksbridge goalkeeper David Reay and his opposite number were on top form.
Reay was actually involved in the dramatic winner as it was his long kick downfield that evaded Chasetown’s defence. That gifted Ruthven an opening – one that he didn’t waste.
With Chasetown now nearly every man upfront, Reay secured his side the points with an unbelievable save from a shot at point blank range in the dying seconds.
Stocksbridge Park Steels: D Reay, Meade, Tootle, Gregory, Laight (Burton), M Reay, Rhodes (Litchfield), Biggins, Ruthven, Lumsden, Coleman.
