Champions Hemsworth Miners Welfare are going to have the biggest party they have ever had, according to Wayne Benn.

Club captain Jason Yates will lift the Division One trophy after Hemsworth’s clash with Bottesford at the MDC Stadium tomorrow. The Wells are also hoping to break their record attendance of 505 and are offering a ‘Pay as much as you want’ deal for those attending.

Title-winning boss Benn expects it to be an unforgettable day.

“We’re trying to invite past players and we want our own fans to come out in force,” he told Non League Yorkshire.

“We want wives, parents, children, grandparents and make a real occasion of it. We’re also encouraging the local community to come down because it a brilliant chance to market ourselves to potential new supporters.

“I don’t know if we will get there, but we are hoping for a record crowd which would be fitting of the season we have had.

“There is stuff happening at half-time, there are mascots, obviously the presentation after the game. There’s a photographer coming and tomorrow is the real day that we will celebrate.”

Hemsworth’s confirmation as champions was received after Lincoln Moorlands Railway resigned from the league.

That came just a few days after Lincoln failed to raise a side for the game in which the Wells would have won the title. The match was postponed at 11.30am, just as two coaches pulled into Hemsworth’s car park.

“The Lincoln situation did spoil our day which we had planned for that Saturday,” Benn added.

“You never want to see a team go out of business and we know how hard it can be financially to run a team at this level.

“Whilst you have a little bit of sympathy for them, I have no sympathy for what they did on that Saturday. To ring at 11.30am is crazy and you can’t tell me they didn’t know beforehand.

“That made it a massive anti-climax. It killed what we had planned. We would have had a great coach trip, we have won the game and we would have celebrated properly.

“I am slightly disappointed and there is a feeling of a little bit of an anti-climax, but we’ll celebrate tomorrow and reminisce on what has been an amazing season.”
