AFC Emley striker Ash Flynn is a major doubt for tonight’s play-offs semi-final

The question on everyone’s lips is: will Ash Flynn be fit for AFC Emley’s play-offs semi-final with Penistone Church?

Flynn, the scorer of over 70 goals this season, is a major doubt for Emley after limping off during the 3-2 defeat to Bottesford Town last Wednesday.

Darren Hepworth said at the time his chances were not good and he was facing a race against time to be fit. Hepworth is confident of winning promotion via the play-offs though.

He said last week: “I believe in these lads. We have a fantastic squad and with the ability in the dressing room we are good enough to get out of this Division.”

The match is the first ever play-offs game the Northern Counties East League has ever held and is expected to draw a huge crowd.

Emley’s opponents Penistone are in fine form because of their run of 12 league games unbeaten. Their last Division One defeat was the controversial 5-4 defeat to Selby Town in January.

Church chief Ian Richards said: “We have a good a chance as anyone and we are taking form into the play-offs which is really pleasing.

“We’re 13 unbeaten, we’ve beaten the champions (Hemsworth), beaten Bottesford. We’re the in-form team and we also have a squad of players from one to 16 from which anyone could start.

“I’m really confident ahead of the play-offs.”
