Simon Houghton has left Glasshoughton Welfare

Simon Houghton has stepped down from his position as joint manager of Glasshoughton Welfare because of work commitments.

Craig Wilkinson remains with Welfare and has until Saturday to decide whether he wants to continue in sole charge.

One time Pontefract Collieries boss Houghton resigned after the final game of the season because he can no longer commit to every game.

“I’ve throughly enjoyed being with the club, but my job has changed and it means I am working most Saturdays,” Houghton told Non League Yorkshire.

“I’d be alright for midweeks, but that would not be fair on the club, the players and Craig.

“i would just like to add that the players have been tremendous since we were appointed in December. They have given us everything.”

Craig Wilkinson is mulling over the prospect of being in sole charge of Glasshoughton

Houghton and Wilkinson replaced Mick Norbury in December and quickly steered Glasshoughton away from potential relegation trouble.

Former Worsbrough and Hemsworth striker Wilkinson is currently mulling over his options and is hoping to find a side-kick before agreeing to be the manager next season.

“I’ve asked the committee to give me a week to see if I can get an assistant,” Wilkinson said.

“It is a shame how it has worked out with Simon because we worked well together.

“I would have liked him to stay on.”
