Newly-crowned champions Tadcaster sealed promotion to the Northern Premier League for the first time in the club’s history last night.

An expectant crowd turned out to see Tadcaster get over-the-line with the necessary three points and Billy Miller’s men duly did with a controlled display – the goals coming from Josh Greening and Adam Baker.

Josh Schofield’s header did provoke a nervy last few minutes, but Armthorpe were unable to further spoil the party and prevent the flood of Tadcaster fans who ran onto the pitch to celebrate with their players.

Tadcaster’s first half performance warranted more than their solitary goal. They were dominant and hurting Armthorpe’s defence at ease.

Greening twice hit the post before finally being able to beat Armthorpe goalkeeper Leigh Overton from a corner.

Matters appeared to be resolved straight after the interval as Baker raced through and showed huge composure and class to score.

The fans chanting ‘we are going up’ until they were briefly silenced by Schofield’s header. The referee kept the hordes back by playing five minutes of injury-time, but ultimately he couldn’t stop them for forever.
