Tadcaster Albion’s title triumph is a moment of joy that has emerged from a season of tragedy, according to Billy Miller.

Tadcaster clinched top spot with the 2-1 win over Armthorpe to ensure that the Brewers will be playing in the Northern Premier League for the first time in their history next season.

Go back to the turn of the year and Tadcaster, as a area, was reeling from the worst flood in recent memory which devastated homes and businesses in the town.

The i2i Sports Stadium was also badly damaged. The club also lost popular volunteer Sonny-Brogan Lang, who passed away in February.

“It is a massive reward, not just for the football club, but for Tadcaster as a town,” Miller told Non League Yorkshire.

“I was here on Boxing Day as a friend of mine, Spider Taylor was involved with Ark and he came up from the South to help with the operations.

“I came to see him, but you also see the devastation. I’ll never forget when I was walking around with my wife seeing a sign saying ‘all you need is love’. It was brilliant and it was such a tender moment.

“Certainly as manager of the football club, I know how much it means to the town to do well and thankfully we have delivered after everything we have been through.

“It is not just the floods. We lost Sonny this year. Anna (Sonny’s mum) was here tonight and she came over and gave me a big hug and said there was one star in the sky.

“It gives people hope and sport has a wonderful way of doing that.”
