Toolstation NCEL Premier Division
Paul Haigh has been persuaded to help Pontefract Collieries’ bid to return to the Premier Division at the first attempt.
Relegated Pontefract are preparing for life back in Division One after just one season back in the NCEL’s top flight.
Midfielder Haigh is a very popular figure at Beechnut Lane. Originally signed by Simon Houghton in 2010, Haigh stayed with the club for three further years – playing under Brendan Ormsby and then joint managers Duncan Bray and Nick Handley.
He linked up again with Houghton at Shaw Lane Aquaforce and was part of the team that won promotion out of Division One. He left Aquaforce in late 2014 to join Stocksbridge Park Steels.
Haigh played briefly for Pontefract last season, but injury curtailed his season early this year.
Haigh’s decision to commit is a further boost for Pontefract, who announced the capture of Frickley striker Chris Wood on Monday.
