Shaw Lane captain Matt Thornhill has joined Gainsborough
Shaw Lane captain Matt Thornhill has decided to move up a couple of Divisions after signing for Gainsborough Trinity.
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Thornhill has been a major player for the Barnsley-based side. In his first year, he helped them win the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title.
In the second he was a big reason why Shaw Lane pushed champions Stafford Rangers all the way.
Thornhill said:“I am really pleased to be a part of what (Gainsborough manager) Dominic (Roma) is building at Trinity this season and am glad to be signed early, so I can get a good pre-season under my belt. I really feel I can help the team and channel my experience in a positive way.
“The manager is busy recruiting the right sort of players and I think we have a good chance of hitting the ground running, as a squad, when we start pre-season.”
