Lee Morris is looking forward to working with new joint Goole AFC chairmen Andy and Richard Norman.

The brothers, the sons of Goole founder Mike Norman, have taken over the running of the club along with former chairman Steve Shorthouse and vice-chairman Craig Whincup.

Morris met the new chairmen on Monday and he has been buoyed by the conversation he had.

“It was very positive and they are going to be good for Goole in the long run,” Morris told Non League Yorkshire.

“They are going to sort out the infrastructure and make the club more community minded.

“They are also very ambitious and they have set targets for this season.

“Now I’m not going to say what they are, but it was nice to hear what they said.

“There had been a period of instability (prior to their arrival) and it has been the most frustrating pre-season I have ever had.

“But it is good that it has all been put to bed so we can concentrate on the first team and look forward to the season.”

It has been difficult for Morris to attract players to Goole since the end of the season because of the uncertainty over who would be running the club.

Even then he has retained all but four of last season’s squad – Joe Thornton, Nathan Joynes, Nick Guest and Tom Nicholson are the only departures.

So far former Farsley striker Sam Robinson is the only new signing. He does hope to add at least two or three more players in the next few weeks though.

He is also running the rule over a number of trialists in a friendly arranged at short-notice with Ryan Hindley’s Hallam tomorrow lunchtime.

Asked whether he needed a few more experienced players, Morris said: “The thing with experience is that it comes with money and we haven’t got that.

“We are going down the youth route. It can work well. It will be a youthful side, but for some of these lads it is their fourth or fifth season in the Evo Stik.

“Although some of them are only 20, 22, they have played in the Evo Stik for a while and are experienced Evo Stik players.

“The other good thing is that they’re here for the right reasons – not for money.”

Morris will name a new assistant manager next week after the departure of Anton Foster earlier this week.
