Hemsworth Miners Welfare 1-2 Tadcaster Albion
Tadcaster Albion reigned supreme on ‘champions day’ at Hemsworth Miners Welfare after Adam Baker’s late goal.
It was a deserved victory for Tadcaster as their higher league status showed in the final half hour.
The Wells still come out with a lot of credit as their captain Jason Yates placed them in front early doors with a superb thunderous long range strike. That came shortly after new Tadcaster signing Rob Youhill had wasted a golden chance.
Youhill was one of a number of new faces in both sides. Brice Tiani made his debut for Hemsworth, while
Conor Sellars equalised for Tadcaster with a free kick, close to half-time.
Tadcaster had more than enough chances to take the lead in the second half.
Hemsworth defender Luke Danville nearly cost his team a goal at one point after he was caught in possession by Youhill.
The wing wizard squared the ball to Sellars before Wells goalkeeper Chris Snaith raced out to make a fine save and pull the former Shaw Lane captain out of the fire.
However, Snaith could not prevent Baker’s low drive from 18 yards from finding the bottom corner with ten minutes left on the clock – ultimately the difference between the sides.
