Finding a new goalkeeper is the priority for Tadcaster Albion manager Billy Miller.
Youngster Charlie Stewart was between the sticks for 80 minutes of the 2-1 victory at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, but long term he is unable to put his name on the number one jersey.
Miller has again squashed the speculation surrounding former York City goalkeeper Michael Ingham, who has joined the i2i Sports Football Academy.
Gary Stevens was Tadcaster’s goalkeeper during their title-winning campaign. He has since joined AFC Emley as he could not commit to every week for the Brewers.
“I’m still on a goalkeeper hunt at the moment,” Miller told Non League Yorkshire.
“We all think Charlie is good enough, but he is going to University in September.
“We are looking for someone, despite the Michael Ingham connection.
“Michael is working for the company (Tadcaster’s owners i2i Sports) and although it hasn’t been ruled out, there has been no deep conversation in terms of him playing for Taddy because he is quite ambitious about what he wants to do.”
Miller has been relatively quiet in the transfer market since Tadcaster’s promotion to the Evo Stik Division One North.
Only Steven Jeff (Frickley Athletic), Dan Thirkell (Harrogate Railway), Liam Shepherd (Pickering Town) and Rob Youhill (Harrogate Railway) are the brand new signings so far.
Further new recruits haven’t been ruled out and two players on trial at Tadcaster are midfielder Fatlum Ibrahimi (Knaresborough Town), and centre-back Lewis Morgan (Albion Sports). Both men played for Miller at Railway.
“Fatlum and Lewis have been invited to be in and around it and they have nothing to lose,” he added.
“I know Fatlum well and have had Lewis at Harrogate Railway for a brief period.
“If it doesn’t work out with us then they will always have the option of going elsewhere because they’re good footballers.”
Tadcaster head to Pickering Town on Wednesday night to face club legend Paul Marshall’s side.
