Campion have won the battle to sign Halifax Irish striker Eli Hey

New-boys Campion have won the battle to sign much-wanted forward Eli Hey.

The one-time Liversedge man put his signature on a registration form along with former Farsley Celtic striker Mark Bett after Campion’s 4-3 defeat to Harrogate Railway.

Hey scored 59 goals in 27 appearances for Halifax Irish in the West Riding County Amateur League so clubs were circling. AFC Emley had hoped he would train with them in pre-season and at least two more NCEL clubs were confident of landing him.

Former Farsley Celtic striker Mark Bett will play for Campion if and when required

Bett is unlikely to feature much for Campion because of work commitments, the same reason why he stepped down as assistant manager of Northwich Victoria at the end of last season.

The striker has a excellent relationship with Campion manager James Bicknell and will help out if and when required. Bett was a key player for now defunct all-conquering Bradford Sunday League side Buttershaw White Star when Bicknell was the manager.

Bett is best known for his glory-laden spells with Farsley, but in recent years he has helped Curzon Ashton win two promotions.
