Spencer Fearn believes his Maltby Main players have “bonded” in a big way after their mini pre-season of the North East.
Maltby spent three nights in the North East, playing twice and training once. The Main lost 2-0 at Dunston on Thursday before drawing 1-1 with Newton Aycliffe on Saturday.
“At the start of the tour we said to the players that it was the performances that mattered and we certainly had two very good games against tough opposition,” Fearn said.
“The energy, tempo and commitment that these lads showed in throughout was first class. We looked very dangerous going forward and solid as a defensive unit.
“What was pleasing to see was some of our younger players making the trip and being more than comfortable at this level and how the lads bonded as a group.
“Our side last season was built on a tremendous team spirit and there is a clear indication that this will continue this season.”
