Ian Richards expects to secure some new signings at Penistone Church very soon, after a very quiet start to the summer.

Penistone have retained everyone apart from Ollie Fearon and Alvin Riley, but have yet to confirm any new faces.

Richards has been taking his time and has got four players on trial – Worsbrough Bridge attackers Joe Long and Scott Whittington, along with two West Yorkshire-based players.

He also has his eyes on two other players.

“At the end of the last season I said that my biggest job was to retain as many players as I could and we have been successful in that,” Richards told Non League Yorkshire.

“Ollie Fearon has left and he’s gone to Mansfield and that was too good an offer to turn down. Alvin Riley was always going to retire to spend more time with his family.

“Everyone has come back fresh, determined, with the drive to get promoted. We have signed everybody from last season, bar those two.

“We have graduated four players from the reserves which is really good and we have invited four or five trialists so we can have a look at them.

“Hopefully we can get two more players who were successful players in our league last season who have just come available.

“Out of the those six, we will probably sign three or four which will be enough.”
