Ryan Smith’s goal and a crowd of over 1400 made sure Athersley had a night to remember when Barnsley came to the Rec.
It could not have gone much better for the Rec, who are now set up financially for the season.

Bridlington Town stormed to a 5-0 victory over Westella & Willerby. Brett Agnew (2), Gareth Owen, Chris Adams and Danny Chambers scored.
Campion won 2-1 at West Yorkshire League Premier side Leeds City.
Harrogate Town edged a narrow 3-2 victory at Cleethorpes Town after Dom Knowles struck in the closing stages.
Jordan Robertson and Andy Gascoigne were Harrogate’s other goal-scorers.
Scarborough Athletic ran out 5-1 winners against East Yorkshire Carnegie. Paul Beesley, David Brown, Benny Igiehon and Carl Stewart (2) scored.
