Gary Allanson hailed his magnificent Bridlington Town players for “out-working” National League Premier newcomers North Ferriby United.
Andy Norfolk’s late header secured the stunning 2-1 victory at Queensgate, a result that Bridlington more than deserved.
Allanson told Non League Yorkshire: “It was a great result.
“That was our fourth game of pre-season and we’re trying to build it in the right way.
“You could see that today. That was North Ferriby’s strongest team. They had no reserves in and that’s their team which is going into the National League.
“I thought we matched them in every department and we outworked them. At times we didn’t outplay them because our quality was missing at times, but we outworked them and kept to our guns.
“I think we did really well. Our goalkeeper wasn’t tested too many times and if you look at our back four, we came very resilience towards the end of last season from Christmas when we went on a very good run.
“We created a shape and a formation that kept us well and, today, defensively in a shape, I thought we did fantastically well. We’re becoming very hard to break down.”
By his own admission, Allanson has refused to make a lot of noise about his summer transfer dealings.
Four players have arrived – Louis Kirk (Barton Town OB), Danny Chambers (Barton Town OB), Michael Thompson (former Hall Road Rangers captain), centre-back Kurtis Bedford (Barton Town OB).
Only one player – Jamie Reeson (Hall Road Rangers) – has left.
“We knew what we needed to look at and we’ve been quiet and efficient in the way we have done our business,” he said.
“That’s with the help of Wayne Lewis, (coach/physio) Danny Brunton and the chairman Peter Smurthwaite. We haven’t been big with photographs showing us shaking hands with all the players.
“We’ve looking very strong and we have a lot of strength in depth.”
