Selby Town 0-1 Scarborough Athletic
New Selby Town goalkeeper Josh Archer stole all the plaudits in his side’s defeat to Scarborough Athletic.
Archer kept Selby in it after a series of brilliant saves. Only Scarborough trialist and former Liversedge striker Benny Igiehon could beat him. Igiehon’s 15th minute header was all that could get past Archer.
Adam Bolder, Paul Beesley, Igiehon and Alhassane Keita all had shots brilliantly kept out by Archer as the first half wore on.
The best save was reserved for Igiehon’s header midway through the second half as Archer managed to turn the striker’s goal-bound header away from danger with one hand.
Scarborough had a few familiar faces in their side, including former Tadcaster Albion pair Carl Stewart and Liam Ormsby. Ormsby did sign for Selby at the end of June, but the midfielder has been training and playing with the Seadogs for the past two weeks.
Selby Town: Archer, Horsman, Emery, Simpson, Cusworth, Crisp, Beckram, Brook, Jackson, Lattimore, Fawcett. Subs: Perks, Hogg, Hope, Flanagan.
Scarborough Athletic: Porter, Robson, Small, A Bolder, Ormsby, Lamplough, Keita, Birch, Beesley, Igiehon, Nelthorpe. Subs: Brown, Torrell, C Bolder, Shaw, Humble, Jennings.
Let’s hope Selby can hold on to Josh Archer, he was superb again, definitely man of the match, pulling off some wonderful saves against a much better and definitely a better organised team, let’s hope the rest of the Selby team can take some inspiration from Josh, and play with some passion and pride.
