Karl Rose wants to add at least two more players to his Frickley Athletic squad before the season begins.
After surprising many by finishing seventh, Frickley have lost several of their star players. Rose has responded by bringing ten new players – including the latest trio Joel Purkiss, Royale Johnson and Henri Nimi – to the Westfield Lane.
“With a good season we had like, it is always going to be difficult to keep hold of players,” Rose told Non League Yorkshire.
“Credit to the boys who have gone to higher leagues because they have earned it and they deserve that right.
“You have to look again and with the budget we have, we tend to look at the leagues below. I have been delighted with the lads who have come in. They are putting in effort, they’re listening and they’re learning.
“Hopefully we can unearth a few rough diamonds. We’re always looking to improve, even when the first ball of the season is kicked.
“We had a good look at some trialists in the second half at Ossett and I’m hoping to get another two players in.”
Rose was also content with his side’s display in the 2-2 draw at Ossett Town on Tuesday night.
Frickley had a lot of trialists on show, especially in the second half when Ossett went in front.
“For half-an-hour I thought we were very good,” he added.
“There are just little things that we need to work on in training, such as shape, set-plays, pattens of play.
“I was very pleased for the first half-an-hour. We conceded a sloppy goal from a set-play and I thought it gave them impetus and credit to Ossett because I thought they really got into it.”
