Brighouse Town midfielder James Hurtley will miss the opening nine games of the season because of his red card at Mossley towards the end of last season.
Hurtley was sent off, along with Mossley goalkeeper Tom Dean, after going into the crowd to ‘protect his father from a number of Mossley supporters’ in the last minute of the April clash. He received the mandatory three match ban, but the FA deemed the standard punishment insufficient.
Hurtley and acting Brighouse chairman Charles Tolley submitted evidence to a non-personal hearing, but the committee slapped the midfielder with six further games and a fine.
Currently, the earliest possible return for Hurtley is the visit to Scarborough Athletic on the 27th September. That could change depending how Brighouse fare in the Emirates FA Cup.
