Goole AFC won the Eric Lawton Cup for the first time in two years in a feisty encounter at Selby Town.
Goole’s superb attacking display in the first half won the contest as Lewis Bemrose, Luke Mangham and Bobby Johnson scored.
Selby’s hopes went up in smoke when Mick Jones marked his return to Richard Street by getting sent off after attempting to attack Goole’s Sam Colbear.
Colbear would later go onto add the fourth before a late rally from Selby which saw Nathan Perks and Kris Fawcett score.
Although Selby were the orchestrators of their own downfall, Goole were clinical and dangerous every-time they went forward.
A poor back-pass from a Selby free kick gifted the first goal to Bemrose. There was a similar theme for the second, but Mangham’s rocket of a volley was an absolute beauty.

Jones was skating on thin ice prior to his red card as he could have made an early exit for hauling down a through Bemrose. He was yellow carded for that, but Goole dealt a juster punishment as Bobby Johnson buried the free kick.
A few tasty challenges later and the tension was building. The referee, who lost control at one point, needed to be stronger and he failed to stamp his authority on the game at a critical juncture. Booking Selby’s Ash Hope for a rash foul did little to calm the players. It came to head when Colbear and Jones became involved in a tangle. Colbear got out of the way quickly, but whilst no punches were thrown, Jones had to be restrained by a few players. A red card was no surprise.
Some disagreed with the brandishing of the red, but it did restore order.
Goole sealed their victory straight after the interval with makeshift striker Colbear scoring with a looping header.
Goole made several chances and it was several mistakes that led to the two goals they conceded.
Perks struck with an elaborate finish before Fawcett capitalised on poor defending.
