Rhys Meynell has been installed as Goole’s new captain after agreeing to join the Victoria Pleasure Grounds club.

The central defender has been snapped up very quickly by Goole, just a few days after his release from Frickley Athletic.

Goole fans saw their new leader for the first time during the Eric Lawton Cup victory at Selby Town on Saturday.

“I’ve said all along since I got the job that I wanted a bit of experience,” Lee Morris said.

“Neil Stevens has brought that and now Rhys has brought it and he’s going to be massive for us.”

Meynell is one of several new faces at Goole this summer and Morris has not ruled out further signings.

“I’m about done, I know I said that four weeks ago,” he said.

“If someone comes available who I think is going to better my squad then I will be interested.

“The squad was lightweight in size at the start of pre-season. It was hard before pre-season. Goole, off-the-pitch, didn’t know what was happening.

“I reckon there will be some very good players who will come available very soon. There will be players at Evo Stik level who can’t get game-time and just want to play.”
