Brighouse clinically saw off lower league Yorkshire Amateur at the Dual Seal Stadium.

Steve Mallory, Fernando Moke (2), Jamie Frost (2), Tom Robinson, Jacob Buchanan and Tom Haigh ensured the Ammers had a long night.

The Ammers, who played so well against Tadcaster Albion last week, have a lot of work to do ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Worsbrough Bridge.

Several of the goals that were conceded were self-inflicted due to poor defending.

Mallory’s deadlock breaker in the third minute was a cracker and it was the start of a period of one-way traffic. The Ammers tried to play the ball out from the back, but without key man Leroy Macintosh in the holding midfield role, the back four mark kept playing themselves into trouble.

Moke and Frost followed suit before a superb Harrison Blakey free kick reduced the deficit. Blakey almost scored a second goal seconds later, but goalkeeper Tom Taylor pushed the ball onto the post.

That was the best spell the Ammers had and three mad minutes on the stroke of half-time killed the contest. Wanted man Jason Yates cut the Ammers defence open and striker Frost did the rest for the fourth goal.

Ammers goalkeeper Surawa Bojang played a major part in the fifth as his decision to rush out was costly. Bojang ended up in the left-back slot and found himself stranded when the ball was floated into the penalty area. An Ammers defender somehow blocked Frost from completing his hat-trick, but no-one could stop the ball ending at the feet of Moke, who fired into the unguarded net.

Brighouse created numerous openings for more goals throughout the second half. Robinson’s strike in the 70th minute was the start of a flurry of goals.

Buchanan scored next before veteran Dan Sherrife sent a spectacular free kick into the top right-hand corner of the Brighouse goal to give the Ammers supporters something to cheer about.

With the last kick of the game, there was still time for Haigh to wrong-foot Bojang to get on the score-sheet.
