Harry Viggars has made history by becoming the first ever contracted player at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The news is a ray of sunshine for Wells supporters on a bleak week which has seen title-winning captain Jason Yates dramatically leave the club.

Viggars is an immensely popular figure at Hemsworth and that showed when he won all three trophies at their annual end of season awards in May.

The central defender was a massive figure in their run to the title and the award of contract is a reward for his efforts. It also deters potential suitors, who would now have to pay a fee to the Wells for Viggars’ services.
