Rob Hunter got his first win as manager of Garforth Town after the extra-time 2-0 win over Grimsby Borough.
Garforth fully deserved their second round victory, despite it taking two goals in the second half of extra-time to finally break down a solid Grimsby side.
Going forward, Garforth created numerous chances and Mitch Hamilton was guilty of missing two clear-cut opportunities.
Young Casey Stewart eventually made Garforth’s pressure pay two minutes into the second half of extra-time. He broke clear of a tiring Grimsby defence and slid the ball past the onrushing Grimsby goalkeeper.
Substitute Mark Simpson did all the hard work for the decisive second as he showed great technique during a break-a-away. Instead of being greedy, the striker squared the ball across the box for midfielder Jake Rose to bury the chance.
The victory must now give the Miners the confidence and platform to build on.
There’ll be some unhappy bus drivers in Cleethorpes as Handsworth Parramore beat the holders 4-0.
Ryan Lee, Danny Buttle, Colin Marrison and Jon Froggatt scored for Parramore.
Athersley Rec drew 2-2 at Teversal, but lost on penalties.
