An injury-time own goal gifted promotion-chasing Penistone Church a win in their first league game of the new campaign.

The fairly tight affair had lots of chances and it could have gone either way.

Former Nostell striker Dale Kelly put his new side on the front foot straight after the interval after heading home at the far post from a Penistone corner.

Promising young player Steve Smith hit back for Nostell with a stunning 30-yard strike.

Both sides had opportunities to win it as the game wore on. Lucas Middleton kept the scores level on 85 minutes after diverting a goal-bound Penistone effort onto the crossbar.

He wasn’t so lucky in the third minute of injury-time as he accidentally flicked a Church free kick into own net.
