Liversedge got their home league campaign underway in spectacular style and they have a new goalkeeper as well.

Former Garforth Town stopper Ben Hunter, who was training with Tadcaster Albion in pre-season, adds solid NCEL experience to ‘Sedge’s side. He made his debut in the Armthorpe win and had little to do.

Hopes of building on their surprise 14th place finish last season must be high after such a big victory.

Key striker Vaughan Redford got them started with his strike on the half-hour mark. He won the aerial battle before firing for goal. The shot was saved, but Redford scored with the follow-up effort.

Rhys Davies doubled ‘Sedge straight after half-time. A Joe Walton header put the game beyond Armthorpe’s reach.

Tom Jackson stretched the lead even further before Ste Wales capitalised on a mix-up in Armthorpe’s defence to score into an empty net for number five.

Armthorpe, who had few shots on goal, have lots of work ahead.
