Rob Bordman scored a hat-trick as Ossett Albion progressed to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with a fantastic display away at Bamber Bridge.

Albion made two changes to the line up from the Tadcaster match with Connor Brunt replacing the ill Adam Muller and Adam Jones came in for Rikki Paylor.

The game began with both sides looking to get the early goal and it again Albion conceded first. Ex Guisley and Bradford (Park Avenue) midfielder Michael Potts scored a fantastic free kick from 25 yards to nudge Bamber ahead, however Albion were level within a minute. They won a corner from the kick and Danny South rose highest to head across goal for Dom Riordan  to tap home the equaliser.

Albion then stretched the lead when a short back pass was intercepted by Bordman who whilst rounding the ‘keeper was upended resulting in a penalty and only yellow card, under new guidelines. Bordman converted the spot kick sending the ‘keeper the wrong way. He got his 2nd soon after as right back Declan Dawson chased a lost cause. He pressed the Bamber defence and then the ‘keeper whose kick only reached Bordman. The striker then emphatically drove the ball back into the unguarded top corner.

During this time Ali Waddecar wasted a header at the back post to get Bamber back into the game, and they had spells of pressure without causing the Albion defence to much stress. But it was Albion who nearly made in four as the ball broke to brunt in the box and his sweet left foot half volley beat the keeper only to be cleared off the line, by a well placed defender.

The second half began and Albion looked comfortable containing Bamber and it was them who scored as Ross Hardaker’s cross was headed over the stranded Bamber keeper from 18 yards by Bordman to complete his hat trick.

Bamber made three quick substitutions and began to look dangerous but pressed the self destruct button when goal scorer Potts was given a straight red card for his dissent towards the referee. However, Bamber did still look dangerous going forward and were rewarded with a goal on 86 minutes when Phil Doughty lost his marker and head home from a corner to reduce the arrears.

Instead of the the forthcoming onslaught to push Albion back it was them who scored shortly after. A sublime through ball by Bordman set Brunt away. He rounded to keeper before shooting, only to see for the second time, it cleared off the line. This time the re-bound fell back to him and he helped the ball back towards goal where Jimmy Eyles was on hand to convert.

Albion will travel to Bishop Auckland in the next round.
