Tom Corner haunted his old club Scarborough Athletic as Tadcaster Albion dramatically came back from 2-0 down to win, courtesy of a late goal.

Tadcaster manager Billy Miller made two changes to the side that beat Ossett Albion in midweek with Lewis Morgan and Liam Shepherd coming in for Gregg Anderson and Steve Jeff.

Former Taddy players Carl Stewart & Liam Ormsby both started for the visitors with Tom Morgan and David Brown on the bench.

It was Scarborough who took the lead inside three minutes with skipper Joe Lamplough deflecting a header past Michael Ingham.

Taddy were extremely slow getting out of the blocks as the experience and nous of Bolder in midfield showed early on.

Scarborough were taking the game to Taddy and Stewart had a good chance to get one over on his old side but couldn’t keep his left-footed strike down.

As predicted, it was a high octane and ferocious cup tie with both sides desperate to beat one another.

Taddy’s first sighting at goal came in the 11th minute when Rob Youhill’s cross was met by the smallest man on the pitch, Conor Sellars, who got up well but headed just off target.

The home side began to venture forward more and more and two minutes later lead to another good chance to draw level.

Sellars cleverly picked out the advancing Corner who curled narrowly wide.

The visitors were in control for large spells in the first half and looked dangerous against Taddy’s deep back-line.

They threatened to double their lead on a number of occasions but Paul Beesley and Stewart failed to hit the target.

Taddy’s best chance of the half came seven minutes from the break. A long throw-in by Josh Barrett dropped to the lurking Sellars who saw his fizzing shot impressively kept out by Scarborough number one Jordan Porter.

However in the 41st minute the away side gained a two goal cushion. The experienced Craig Nelthorpe exquisitely bent the ball into the far corner to give Scarborough a deserved lead at the break.

The Brewers needed to respond quickly in the second half, and respond quickly they did. Just four minutes in and the deficit was halved.

Porter rushed off his line to head away but the unconvincing clearance dropped to Youhill who brilliantly chipped the retreating goalkeeper to make it game on.
It was turning into a complete game of two halves as Taddy were all over their opponents in the second 45 as momentum built up increasingly.

The 612 watching on football fans were in for a frenetic grandstand finale as The Brewers equalised with quarter of an hour remaining.

Sellars’ whipped free-kick was helped on by Corner and nodded in by Josh Greening.

Scarborough lost Ormsby to a serious injury late in the game. Ormsby was taken to hospital and will find out the extent of the injury on Monday.

Scarborough must have thought they’d sealed a place in the next round with six minutes to go, but former York City keeper Michael Ingham pulled off an unbelievable double save.

Former Brewer Brown raced in down the left and crossed to Callum Robinson whose effort at goal was tremendously kept out with a point blank save before getting up and clawing out of the top corner at the other side of the goal.

With the cup tie looking like it was heading to a replay at Queensgate on Wednesday night, Taddy incredibly completed a terrific comeback with Sellars, Greening and Corner all involved.

Adam Baker’s cross was picked up on the by-line by Sellars. The lively attacker pulled it back to Greening who scuffed his shot, but Corner was on-hand to touch in rounding off a dramatic afternoon.

Tadcaster will travel to Pontefract Collieries in the First Qualifying Round.
