Kai Hancock’s impressive start to the season continued as the attacker scored a hat-trick to guide the Rec to victory.

Athersley hit the front foot straightaway as Sam Bebbington was pulled down by Rainworth goalkeeper Frazer Hampson in the penalty area. Hampson was sent off and Hancock converted the penalty.

The Rec talisman Ryan White then doubled their lead soon after with a long range strike.

Former Pontefract striker Aaron Moxam dragged Rainworth back into the game on the half-hour mark. The pressure continued to mount and it was no surprise when Matthew Plant headed home Danny Claridge’s free kick.

Rainworth had two or three good chances at the start of the second half before the ten men started to tire.

Athersley regained control and Hancock put them back in front after intercepting a Matt Sykes pass.

Hancock sealed his hat-trick in the dying seconds by burying Bebbington’s cross.
