Pontefract Collieries 3-1 Westella & Willerby
Three first half goals guided Pontefract to a straight-forward victory over Westella at Beechnut Lane.
It was one-way traffic in the opening half as Westella could not cope with Pontefract’s front four. The actual opener came from an unlikely source. Right-back Jimmy Williams, normally a centre-half, made a long run forward before firing into the bottom corner.
Westella captain Matt Fyvie then brought Regan Fish down, allowing Chris Wood to score from the penalty spot.
Mikey Dunn hit the third after breaking through Westella’s defence.
There was a danger that Westella were staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat.
Luckily for them, the second half saw a much better showing than them – even though striker Daniel Morton had to replace ill goalkeeper Lewis Exall.
Alex Wood scored Westella’s reward for their efforts in the dying minutes.
