Brett Renshaw is looking forward to catching up with some old friends and reminiscing about the past at Garforth Town on Sunday.

Renshaw, one of greatest captains in Garforth’s history, is turning out for the Legends’ side in the Ralph Backhouse Memorial Cup game.

“We had our ups and downs, but I really enjoyed playing for Garforth,” Renshaw said.

“I played there for six years and we had some fun. We won two promotions and a West Riding County Cup and it was one of the best periods of my football career.

“I have a lot of friends at the club and it will be good to see them.

“It will also be good to catch up with a lot of the lads playing as there are some that I haven’t seen for years.”

The Garforth Legends are helping to raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal.

Players such as Darren Kelly, Lee Connor, Jamie Price, Andy Rowan, Duncan Bray, Ben Hunter, Nick Black, Milton Turner, Jassim Alali and Andy Watson are playing.

Watson is the latest name to be revealed and he will be welcomed back with open arms as he is very popular. He was sold to Doncaster Rovers in 1999 for £25,000 and he is rated as one of the best players to ever pull on a Garforth shirt.

There are others who have yet to be revealed, but will be in the run-up to Sunday.

On Ralph, Renshaw added: “He was a supporter who would be there every week and would always come over and talk to the players at the bar after a game.

“He would be constructive and would back you as long as you gave 100%. He was a nice guy.”

Kick off is 2pm at the J.S White Community Stadium.
