Toolstation NCEL Division One
Campion 5-3 Shirebrook Town
Campion moved two points clear at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Division after coming up victorious over Shirebrook Town.
Eli Hey scored his sixth goal in the last five games to open up the scoring.
It didn’t take long for Shirebrook to level up the scores.
Steve Hollingworth managed to get himself on the scoresheet to reinstate Campion’s lead going into the break.
Both sides exchanged goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second period – but two late goals from Campion were enough to claim three well-deserved points.
Hey gave Campion the lead after shrugging off a Shirebrook player to drive the ball home.
Just six minutes later Oliver Grady levelled it up for the visitors – managing to find room in the eighteen-yard area to place it past Daniel Armitage.
Matty Waller went close to giving the hosts the lead again – taking on his man before seeing his shot go narrowly wide.
Hollingworth then found himself clean through before coolly slotting the ball past the keeper.
Waller played the ball through to Hey who then made a pin-point pass to Hollingworth who was able to dink the ball over the keeper to score his second of the evening.
Shirebrook pulled one back after Ryan Hall smashed the ball in the top right corner from 20 yards out.
With 17 minutes left on the clock – Shirebrook were awarded a penalty, allowing Matt Langley to send the keeper the wrong way and make it 3-3.
But just six minutes later another spot kick was awarded – this time to Campion – after John Booth was brought down – which allowed Scott Eastwood to steer the ball in to the top right corner.
Campion enjoyed possession late on as they ran down the clock – allowing Booth to kill the game off for the hosts.
The Campion substitute used his strength to get away from a Shirebrook tackle to slot the ball past the keeper and give the hosts a 5-3 victory.
