Goole AFC have named former player Dave Anderson as their new manager, three days after the departure of Lee Morris to Frickley Athletic.

Anderson won the job after an interview on Sunday evening. The former Barton Town OB boss, who left the Easybuy Stadium in the summer after six successful seasons in charge, had two spells as a player with Goole in the 1980s and 1990s under Mickey Bullock and then Tim Hotte.

He now returns to Goole, who need a big lift as they are bottom with only one point. However, Anderson is confident of turning the situation around.

“I’ve seen a bit of Goole this year and I think they are in a false position,” Anderson told Non League Yorkshire.

“There is a good core of players and hopefully we can look to get some points on the board.

“It is a clean slate for all players. Everyone will be given a chance.

“Goole is a fantastic club and I’m sure we can move it forward. I’m glad to back, it is an ideal opportunity at a level I want to be working at.

“I left Barton in a good position in the summer because I wanted a new challenge and Goole fits the bill.”

The Anderson era at Goole will begin on Saturday at Colwyn Bay, and he will be hoping that his managerial bow will not go the same way as his playing debut did in the 1986.

“I had some funny moments at Goole, the funniest was when I made my debut at South Liverpool,” he added.

“It was a cup tie and in those days South Liverpool was a notorious place to go.

“While one of our players was being treated, I got punched and laid out by one of the South Liverpool players and ended up staying in hospital overnight.”

Mally Parker, who was Anderson’s assistant at Barton, has taken up the same position at Goole.
