Lee Ashforth is back in football as the new joint assistant manager of Brighouse Town, three days after his resignation from Harrogate Railway.

Ashforth handed his cards in at Harrogate on Monday night after 17 months at the helm, saying he had stopped “enjoying it” and that the first team needed fresh input.

Joining Brighouse is a dream scenario for Ashforth as he lives seven minutes away from the Dual Seal Stadium.

“Quinn (Paul Quinn) was one of the first people to ring me on Monday after the news came out that I had resigned from Railway,” Ashforth told Non League Yorkshire.

“He asked me what I had happened at Railway and said “look there’s a position available”.

“I asked him to give me a couple of days so that the dust could settle. We met up a couple of days later and we had a good chat for a couple of hours about what the role would entail.

“I went away to think it over, but my mind was made up more-or-less straightaway. It is perfect for me. It’s five minutes from my house and its a position at a Evo Stik club.”

Ashforth joins Paul Quinn’s extensive backroom team which already includes Mark Booth (joint assistant manager), David Thompson (coach) and Paul Brown (goalkeeping coach).
