Bridlington Town manager Gary Allanson believes clubs involved in big Emirates FA Cup action this weekend should have been allowed to have a free midweek.

Bridlington have their biggest game in a long time coming up on Saturday as National League outfit Harrogate Town visit Queensgate for the second qualifying round tie.

But first Brid have to visit top side Cleethorpes Town tonight.

“We have done very so well in the FA Cup and we’re getting punished for being successful,” Allanson told Non League Yorkshire.

“Both games that we have lost have come after two very difficult FA Cup games away in Newcastle. Everything takes it tolls, with things such as travelling.

“I think the Cleethorpes game should have been moved. You have to look after the clubs.

“We played on Sunday (against Yorkshire Amateur in the FA Vase) so we have had two days rest before playing away at Cleethorpes who are a top side.

“We then get two days recovery before a massive FA Cup game. I just think the league could have said to all the clubs involved in the FA Cup, ‘look we’re postponing your midweek fixtures to give you more time to prepare for the Cup games’.”
