Ash Flynn was the difference in AFC Emley’s win at Westella & Willerby
Ash Flynn was the difference as AFC Emley edged past unlucky Westella & Willerby.
In a frantic start to the game Garry Flounders hit a 30 yard shot in the opening 45 seconds that flew in past the visiting keeper Stevens for the opener. Before Westella could get themselves sorted 30 seconds later the visitors equalised through Ash Flynn with an easy tap in the equaliser.
The game slowly settled down with both sides having fair share of possession and on 10 minutes Alex Wood cut in from a wide area and hit a curling effort that flew inches wide of the top up right.
Two minutes later Lewis Andrew curled in a corner of which Wood rose highest and headed just over.
Westella had a good spell of play with Ben Killingsworth beating his full back time and again.
The visitors took the lead on 20 minutes, a Westella throw-in saw the visitors pinch the ball and switch it cross field. As the lively Coduri drove in to the box Lewis Exall dived bravely at his feet gaining the ball. Coduri kicked the ball out of Exall’s hands enabling full back Jay Carney to tap home with an easy finish for 2-1 to the visitors.
Ten minutes from half time the visitors extended their lead. Coduri again the supplier for Flynn to fire home from close range.
The second half saw Westella play with more quality with the visitors somewhat resting on their lead.
A well worked free kick on 50 minutes saw Lewis Andrew roll the ball round the Emley wall for Mike Hewitt who fired on the half volley from a tight angle past the waving Stevens in the Emley goal for 3-2.
Westella continued to pile the pressure on dictating play in the centre of the pitch as Emley struggled to get a grip on the game.
Exall in the home goal was much of a spectator making two fantastic saves down low keeping his side well in the game.
Westella having the most noticeable efforts with Danny Moore, Chris Short and Ben Killingsworth guilty of missing the target in front of goal.
The game became more open with 20 minutes to play, Westella pushing for the equaliser whilst the visitors soaking up pressure saw them counter attack where possible.
Westella continued to press for the much deserved third goal but for some last ditch tackles and blocks saw the visitors clear their lines and take the three points home with them.

“I thought to a man my players were superb tonight.
“The football we played at times was brilliant and caused Emley some problems.
“To take the lead so early and then conceded straight away is of course frustrating but it is something we will work on and out right.
“We definitely caused Emley some problems tonight and we are a team full of confidence and not to be under estimated, it’s only a matter of time before we get the monkey off our back as such and get our first win, hopefully that will be this Saturday away to Yorkshire Amateur.”
