Paul Stansfield has praised the volunteers at Knaresborough Town for their quick reaction to a pitch problem.
Knaresborough have chafer grubs in a small patch of the field and the problem has been slightly worse by crows, who feed off them. The issue forced one postponement last week – the West Riding County Cup tie with Goole AFC which is now being played tonight.
Stansfield said: “We haven’t lost at home so we don’t want to be calling games off.
“I think it will be fine, the reserves played at home on Saturday.
“We have an infestation of these bugs and then the birds are coming down and trying to get at that and destroying sections of the pitch.
“There were only a few patches, but it was unfit to play. We patched them up a few days earlier, but the birds did more damage.
“I went down to help out with my spade and helped put the covers on the Friday and the Monday.
“The committee have been amazing. Steve Bradley who does the ground has been phenomenal with his efforts to try and patch it back up. It was a real team effort by everyone.”
