Sean Regan believes Eccleshill United have finally found the right formula.
Eccleshill recently through a run of one win in six league games, but they have won their last two – the wins over Yorkshire Amateur and Knaresborough Town.
The Bradford-based side were conceding a lot of goals, but Regan is confident that the corner has been turned.
“We’ve tried every system going, if I’m honest,” Regan told Non League Yorkshire.
“We didn’t keep a clean sheet all season until last Saturday.
“We switched off now and then in games. We have a good bunch, but when you lose focus, it can cause you problems such as when you haven’t got possession of the ball. That caused us a few issues in previous games.
“People think defending poorly and immediately look at he back four. That isn’t the case because the back four have been really good.
“In front of that we needed to defend a lot better.”
Because Eccleshill won all four of their opening games, they are in the promotion race – a hope that Regan had in the summer.
“Maybe it was a little naive from me to say it (that he wanted a challenge for promotion), but what I would say is that I expect this team to do well in this league,” he said.
“With the players we have got, you would expect us to.
“The signings we made were all players from a higher league and linking them with the existing team does take time.
“The good thing is that we do have a good foundation. We’re looking good on the points system, we’re in the mix.”
Eccleshill are away at Worsbrough Bridge tomorrow.
